Clifty Creek Cost Share Program |
|
The Clifty Creek Cost Share Program is extending an invitation to the community to support the improvement of water quality. The program is a local effort designed to address water quality concerns in the Clifty Creek watershed. There are may land-based conservation practices, known as Best Management Practices (BMP), that can directly improve water quality. This Cost Share Program supports a variety of BMP’s selected to address local water quality concerns.
What is a Cost Share Program? The Clifty Creek Cost Share Program is a voluntary program which can provide participants with financial assistance to install conservation practices in the Clifty Creek watershed. PurposeThe purpose of the program is to provide funding to individuals and local communities who adopt on-the-ground conservation practices that will a have a positive, collective and long-term impact on water quality. When it rains, runoff from areas such as farmland, city streets, driveways and suburban lawns enters waterways. This runoff contributes excess sediment, nutrient, pathogens and toxic substances to our waters. Conservation management practices directly improve water quality by reducing the impact of these contaminants.
Why Watersheds?A watershed is an area of land that drains into a common waterway, such as a stream, lake or wetland. Everyone lives in a watershed and land management decisions directly affect the quality of water. By addressing water quality concerns at the watershed level, the Clifty Creek Cost Share Program can focus funds toward projects that will directly improve water quality and the community in which we live.
Who is Eligible?Funding may be awarded to landowners and communities who reside within the Clifty Creek watershed area. The Program encourages applicants from all segments of the community to participate, including farm operators, livestock owners, ranchers, land owners, and urban and suburban residents.

Financial and technical AssistanceThe Cost Share Program will pay up to 75% of the total cost of implementing a BMP project. The Cost Share Program can also provide technical and planning assistance to develop or enhance a conservation plan. Technical assistance and conservation planning is supported by local Soil and Water Conservation Districts in Bartholomew, Decatur, Shelby and Rush counties and the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS). Applicable BMP’s must meet NRCS design specification and installation recommendations.
How do I apply?Interested participants must complete an application and a ranking worksheet to determine eligibility. The highest ranking applications will be given funding priority. Unfunded applications will be considered during subsequent quarterly reviews. Initial reviews began on May 1, 2008. Applications will be accepted on a continual basis, however projects must be completed by April 2010.
